Mountain biking is as much a mental game as it is a physical one. You can have the best bike, strong fitness, and solid technical skills, but if your mindset isn’t dialled, hesitation, fear, and inconsistency can hold you back from riding at your best.
That’s where our Mental Strategy Workshops come in.
These workshops are designed to help riders begin their journey by developing the mental tools needed to stay composed under pressure, manage fear, and ride with confidence in technical terrain. Whether you’re looking to push your limits on the trail, improve your race-day mindset, or simply enjoy riding more, this workshop will give you practical strategies you can apply immediately.
What to Expect in a Mental Strategy Workshop
1. Off-Trail Mental Skills Session
We start with a guided discussion and follow-along exercises covering the mental side of mountain biking. Topics may include:
• Managing fear and anxiety on the bike
• Building confidence and self-belief
• Staying calm and composed in high-pressure situations
• Using techniques to regulate and activate your nervous system
• Developing a structured approach to progression and goal-setting
This session isn’t just about theory - we make sure you leave with practical, easy-to-use tools that will help you take control of your riding mindset.
2. On-Trail Application Ride
After laying the foundation, we take the strategies to the trails. The goal isn’t just to ride the hardest features - it’s to apply mental strategies in real-time on terrain that challenges you.
We start on easier terrain to reinforce key techniques before gradually progressing to more technical sections, such as drops, rock rolls, or fast, steep corners. Throughout the ride, you’ll receive technique coaching, feedback, and real-time adjustments to help you break through mental barriers.
By the end of the session, you’ll have a new framework for approaching challenges on the bike, allowing you to ride with more confidence, control, and consistency.
Why Mental Skills Matter in MTB
I think this goes without saying, Mountain biking is unpredictable, duh! – changing terrain, unexpected obstacles, and high-speed descents all require quick decision-making and a calm, present, focus. Riders often struggle with:
• Hesitation before technical features
• Inconsistent confidence from ride to ride
• Overthinking and second-guessing line choices
• Struggles with speed and flow
The good news? These are trainable skills.
Just like working on cornering or jumping, you can train your brain to manage pressure, stay focused, and ride at your best – and that’s exactly what we introduce in these workshops.
Who Are These Workshops For?
These sessions are perfect for:
• Riders who feel stuck in progression loops and want to break through mental barriers
• Enduro or downhill racers looking to improve focus, manage nerves, and stay composed on race day
• Anyone who wants to feel more confident, in control, and enjoy riding more
Our workshops are best suited for Intermediate+ riders, and we encourage anyone matching our Rider Profiles 3-6 to join.
