Too Dangerous to Learn as an Adult?
That’s what people say about dirt jumps - and mountain biking in general. It’s too scary. Too risky. Too late to start.
But I’m here to challenge that.
In Episode 3 of Facing Fear, I leaned fully into this process, proving that with the right tools, guidance, and environment, we can break through mental barriers, reduce risk, and actually have a ton of fun while we’re at it.
Last week, I hit two massive personal milestones:
Landed my first backflip on the trampoline
Flowed through a line of larger dirt jumps that once felt completely out of reach
None of this happened in isolation. Big thanks to:
Coaches Ryan Grim and Mike Sousa
Facilities like River Dirt Jumps and Airhouse
And my trusty Norco DJ
With their support, it felt like a progressive challenge, not a fear fest. Every step of the journey was built on the last. Confidence, not chaos.

Whether your “backflip” is literal or metaphorical, maybe this episode is the nudge you need to get after it.
