Bring Your MTB Bike or Rent One in Squamish? Here's How to Decide

Should I rent a bike or bring my own when travelling to Squamish? That's the golden question, and honestly, it depends.

Our usual advice is that nothing beats YOUR bike. You know it's dialled in for you: your brakes, your saddle, your parts. However, lugging around a bike, especially if you're flying or doing other non-bike-related travel while you're here, does come with added considerations. If you do decide to fly with your bike, we recommend checking out our "How to Fly With a Bike" YouTube video here.

That said, some guests prefer the ease of travelling without a bike and picking up a good quality rental when they get here - if that's you, here are your options:

First up is Biking in Squamish, who offer free bike delivery and pickup anywhere in Squamish, including trailheads. This is a huge bonus if you don’t have transportation or somewhere to store a bike. Delivery and pickup can be arranged around wherever we’re meeting for your lesson or ride that day. They offer both e-mountain bikes and traditional mountain bikes.

Their fleet is all Trek, running from all-mountain and enduro through to e-bikes and cruiser e-bikes, in sizes from small through to extra-large. They'll do sizing and suspension setup right there on delivery, so you're not wasting riding time fiddling with your bike once it arrives. Helmets, gloves, and knee and elbow pads are all available to rent too, so if you're travelling light on gear, that's covered as well.

Another great option is RideHub. They've got an excellent range of analog and e-mountain bikes, from entry-level rentals through to premium demo models with high-end components.

Bikes come with flat pedals and a helmet included, and you can add clipless pedals at checkout if that's your preference. Knee and elbow protection is available to rent for $10 if you don't want to pack your own. Rental Insurance is also on offer at $30/day, covering damage and repairs (just not loss or theft, so still lock it up). Keep an eye out for their seasonal deals too. Right now that's 15% off through winter and 10% off for pre-booking online.

Want to bring your own e-bike and pick up a rental battery when you're here? No problem.

Flying with an e-bike usually means fighting with airlines over battery shipping restrictions, extra fees, and the risk of your bike turning up without any power at all. Most riders end up leaving the e-bike at home or renting something unfamiliar once they land, and neither option feels great when you know your own bike inside and out.

That's where our partnership with CurRent E-MTB Battery Hire comes in. Fly in with your bike, and collect a battery once you're here (or let us handle the pickup for you as part of your trip). No wrestling with airlines, no unfamiliar rental bike, just your own ride with the motor assist to help you get through more trails in less time.

Check out more info about how this works here.

Aussies, Kiwis, and UK riders note: Remember to ask for your brakes to be 'moto-swapped' unless you ride with the rear brake on the right, which is the North American Standard.
