Diving into WHISTLER: Days 4-7, BC MTB Expedition

If you're here, chances are you already read our last blog post exploring days 1-3 of the BC MTB Expedition, and if not, you can check that out here.

DAY 4

Building on the energy of days 1 - 3, today we up the ante and make our way North to Whistler Bike Park. As North America's largest lift-accessed bike park, with over 100 trails across four zones and nearly 5,000 vertical feet of descent, this place needs no further introductions. Rightly so, it can be a busy spot mid-summer, but thanks to our lift-line priority (included in the trip), our group rolls straight onto the chair each lap, and swiftly gets into a progressive day of exploring the bike park. With both myself and our RideHub guide leading the charge, we explore a curated lineup of flow, jumps, and technical trails designed to build confidence and momentum as the day goes on.

Aside from the riding, we get to soak in everything summer in the Coast Mountains has to offer. Clear blue skies, imposing peaks, and mossy forests surround us at every turn.

Along the way (if we're lucky), we're more than likely to spot some of Whistler’s resident wildlife - black bears lounging in the distance, deer grazing quietly, eagles soaring overhead, and, of course, the ever-mischievous mountain ravens are often there, cawing, keeping us on our toes.

By evening, we’re settled into our accommodation nestled in the heart of Whistler Village, ready to enjoy the lively atmosphere.

DAY 5

Today is all about recharging. But that doesn't necessarily mean we're sitting still. Over breakfast, we set our guests up with loads of options, and believe me, they're all good!

Some of our crew will gravitate down to Lost Lake, others wander the village, grab a massage, or sneak in a mellow pedal of the valley trails. A few keeners among us will head off to tackle Whistler’s endless adventure options - bungy jumping, bear tours, ziplining, alpine dining… the list just goes on. Whatever you choose, the stoke never stops.

Personally, I always feel good having given the body a break at this stage in an expedition, letting my mind reset, and allowing the anticipation for tomorrow’s alpine adventure build.

In the evening, we regroup over dinner, by now sharing plenty of stories from the day and laughs together - while we walk you through the plan for tomorrow’s big epic - Into The Mystic > Lord of the Squirrels - the one many of our guests have been dreaming about riding over years of PinkBike scrolling, and YouTube drooling.

DAY 6

The big one. We start with a beautifully built, but challenging, climb into alpine terrain. Breathing big ones, legs working hard, while the views just keep getting better. It's wild watching the forest change as we gain elevation on Into The Mystic, from mountain hemlock trees to sweeping ridges, glacial clad peaks, and finally, that endless BC summer sky.

Luckily, we're here to help you pace the ride nicely, offering tips and tricks for efficiency and control on the way up, which usually proves a welcome distraction! At the top, we take a moment to catch our breath, devour our lunch, and take in the alpine air before dropping into one of the most epic 'blue/black' descents around.

Roots, rocks, slabs, and flowing single track are sure to keep us locked in. Having a guide on either end of the group, and having come to trust our advice that 'nothing is above their pay grade', lets the group edge closer and closer to the previously elusive flowstate.

By the time we hit the tree line, quads are buzzing, hearts are pumping, and there’s nothing but smiles, fist bumps, and that feeling of earned accomplishment.

That night, we head out for dinner and drinks to celebrate a day that’s been challenging, rewarding, and truly unforgettable.

DAY 7

While the crew fuels up and caffeinates, we kick off the morning with a follow-up Mental Strategy Workshop, integrating lessons from our alpine adventure and preparing us to head back into the bike park for second helpings. From there, we skip the queue with our bike park guides and drop in for first tracks.

At this stage in the expedition, the differences are instantly noticeable for us, as coaches, as well as for our guests - their lines are smoother, they're visibly looser on the bike, and riding at speed comes more naturally.

From the machine-built flow of the Fitzsimmons zone to the classic, rooty tech off the Garbo chair, and the long, playful descents of Creekside - Whistler Bike Park serve up every flavour of riding our group could crave.

By midday, the guests will likely make a natural split into groups: one chasing flow, and one hunting tech, for example. With a guide leading each group, everyone gets exactly what they came for and leaves with a full cup.

After an epic day, we hop in the van and cruise north to Pemberton. Here, the vibe shifts from bustling village energy to small-town, mountain charm, with lodge-style accommodations and big mountain views.

That's all for today. You can sign up for our email list to hear about the rest of the BC MTB Expedition - or check out the expedition webpage here! - Jake
