Full Itinerary

Once we unite in Tasmania, we begin the MTB Expedition with hands-on coaching days in Derby to sharpen technique and build momentum early. That foundation sets the stage for the rugged trails of the west coast and the steeper, high-speed trails of the Maydena Bike Park - so by the time the big stuff rolls around, you’re already dialled in.

PRE-EXPEDITION - GETTING READY TO RIDE TASMANIA! ↓

Your coaching journey begins right away! Share clips of your riding via the Sportsense Remote Coaching app and receive personalized feedback and tips from Jake.

 

​This system is purpose-built to help you sharpen up your skillset, remove any doubts and get rid of bad habits, allowing you to get the most out of your rides in Tasmania!

You'll also have private access to our Online Learning Portal stocked with Mental Skills Trainings, Deep-Dive Webinars, and exclusive resources. As well as our  #GlobalExpeditions Telegram group chat, where you get to meet the crew, ask questions, and receive important updates in real time.

DAY 1 - ARRIVAL, TRANSFER, & INTRO TO DERBY RIDE ↓
  • Fly into Launceston Airport, we'll meet you in the terminal

  • Recommended flight arrival time - Before 10:30 am

  • Private group transfer - Launceston Airport to Derby (inc. supply stops)

  • 'Intro to Derby' familarisation guided ride and coaching with Jake & the team from Tailored Trails

  • Afternoon block (4 hours) of private group Black Stump shuttles

  • Accommodation - Private house in Derby 

DAY 2 - FULL DAY OF BLACK STUMP SHUTTLES  ↓
  • Start each day with a ‘morning toolbox meeting’ over coffee. Celebrate wins from yesterday and discuss goals for today while going over the plan and what to expect. 

  • Today we'll meet at a local cafe, Lot 40, for a ‘Mental Strategy Workshop’ led by Jake. This will help set you up with new tools to apply as we explore some more classic Derby trails today.

  • The terrain we ride today will provide great opportunities to progress our riding through focused coaching sessions and plenty of downhill mileage!

  • We'll finish the day with a local favourite, 'Atlas into Cuddles' 

  • After the riding is done for the day, we'll wind down with a 1 hour session in Lake Derby's Woodfired Floating Sauna

DAY 3 - TAILORED WILDERNESS DAY  ↓
  • Our 'Tailored Wilderness Day', a crowd favourite and a day you will not forget! Ride the three iconic trails that put Derby on the map, option to do any combination or all three!

  • Bay of Fires '13' (13km)

  • Blue Tier (23km)

  • Atlas (16km)

  • Riding towards the beach in one direction, then all the way down to a classic county pub on the next lap, and then all the way back into town to finish our third lap - this is an adventure to remember!

  • Full-day of on-trail guiding with Tailored Trails & The Mind Mountain

  • Accommodation - Private house in Derby

DAY 4 - RIDE BLUE DERBY AND TRANSFER TO PENGUIN BEACH ↓
  • Morning block of private group Blue Derby shuttles

  • Half-day of on-trail guiding with Tailored Trails & The Mind Mountain

  • The opportunity to revisit any favourites and apply lessons learned before heading out! 

  • Private group transfer DBY-PGN (inc. supply or sightseeing stops)

  • Accommodation - Private house in Penguin

DAY 5 - RIDE THE 'IRON TOR' LOOP AND TRANSFER TO QUEENSTOWN (WEST COAST TAS) ↓
  • Transfer to Penguin MTB Park and ride the Iron Tor Loop with on-trail coaching and guiding with Tailored Trails & The Mind Mountain.

  • The Iron Tor consists of an enjoyable low-grade climb trail up to a berm-filled, boulder-strewn, heart-pumping descent, with awesome views out to the coast. 

  • Known among locals as somewhat of a best-kept secret, this underrated loop breaks up our drive perfectly.

  • Private group transfer PNG-QSTWN (inc. supply or sightseeing stops)

  • Accommodation - Private house in Queenstown

DAY 6 - QUEENSTOWN, MT OWEN SHUTTLES  ↓
  • 4WD uplifts on Mt Owen with our partners at RoamWild.

  • On-trail coaching and guiding with Tailored Trails & The Mind Mountain.

  • Epic big-mountain riding with rugged, technical trails and breathtaking wilderness views.

  • That evening, explore Queenstown’s rich mining history, quirky shops & buildings, and indulge in the ‘new-industry’ - Mountain Biking - that is breathing new life into the wild west coast!

  • Accommodation - Private house in Queenstown

DAY 7 - 'SILVER CITY' TRAILS AT ZEHAN ↓
  • Private group return transfers to Zeehan

  • Ride the 'Silver City' trails, multiple loop options and great coaching/learning opportunities.

  • From the flowy Oonah Hill trail, to the epic and challenging Stormsdown loop, Riders can enjoy the natural landscapes, which include buttongrass plains and rainforest, while experiencing a unique blend of nature and mining history.

  • On-trail coaching and guiding with Tailored Trails & The Mind Mountain.

  • Accommodation - Private house in Queenstown

DAY 8 - REST THE LEGS DAY, TRANSFER QUEENSTOWN TO MAYDENA  ↓
  • Jake will lead a follow-up Mental Strategy Workshop over breakfast, with the aim of addressing anything specific that came up on our big mountain rides, and allow you to unlock more trails and features when we arrive in Maydena Bike Park.

  • Rest day, with a few short walks and some wild Australian flora and fauna sightseeing along the way.

  • Option to visit 'The Wall' - A massive Tasmanian Huon pine hand-carved wooden wall in the middle of the wilderness, that depicts the history of the area.

  • Enjoy breathtaking views from the comfort of our Mercedes-Benz Van, as we travel through the famous Franklin River watershed, a World Heritage  Wilderness area.

  • Accommodation - Private house in Maydena

DAY 9 - FULL DAY 'SUMMIT UPLIFT PASS' AT MAYDENA BIKE PARK ↓
  • Full-day unlimited shuttles operated by MBP, provide us with access to over 85 individual trails. Luckily, Jake and our expert local guide will point us in the right direction for maximum fun!

  • As the largest gravity-focused bike park in the Southern Hemisphere, it's known for its massive 820-meter vertical elevation and varied terrain. Designed and built by renowned trail company Dirt Art, the park features trails for all skill levels, from beginners to elite riders.

  • Here we enter the world-class network composed of steep and deep technical trails, wide open machine-built flow trails, and everything in between!

  • A full day of on-trail guiding @ MBP with Tailored Trails & The Mind Mountain

  • Accommodation - Private house in Maydena

DAY 10 - BACK FOR MORE AT MAYDENA BIKE PARK  ↓
  • Full-day unlimited shuttles operated by MBP

  • Today we’ll venture up the summit, a short 5 min pedal from the shuttle drop off and enjoy panoramic views of the Mt Field and Southwest National Parks.

  • Never fear, after taking a short moment to enjoy the views, it’s straight back into the bike park laps.

  • Today it’s time for loads of millage, putting everything we’ve learned so far to the test as we descend lap after glorious lap, down through the lush rainforest and giant eucalyptus trees.

  • Full day of on-trail guiding @ MBP with The Mind Mountain

  • Accommodation - Private house in Maydena

DAY 11- TRANSFER MAYDENA TO HOBART  ↓
  • Pack up, high fives, and prepare for return to the real world.

  • We help you pack up your precious cargo (bikes), while pondering the only question left - where to next?

  • As we drive, reflect on the journey so far, sharing highs and lows, many laughs, and receive instructions from Jake on how to make the most of your post-expedition, remote coaching package.

  • Private group transfer - Maydena to Hobart Airport.

  • Recommended flight departure time - After 11:00am

The in-person component of this expedition may be over, but the good times roll on!

We send you back to your home trails teaming with wisdom and resources to continue the progression.

 

Access to Jake as you coach via our Remote Coaching Platform continues, allowing you to squeeze the most value out of your time with us, and leave no question unanswered as you integrate the skills learned into your familiar home terrain.
